Hello everybody! My name is Murphy and I lived with my friends in a gift shop in the mountains. Today, when the shop was about to close, a young, and sweet Asian girl walked in. She spotted me on the shelf and decided to adopt me.I just learned her name was Mollie and she sells jewelry online. She is here on vacation so I will be handling business for her until saturday, after she returns home.

I know ya'll must be very excited to hear about this trip, but until Mollie has time to tell you anything, I will be the only person answering the questions..I'm not a very good writer, so I thought I would share a picture with you ...

This is me, enjoying a beautiful afternoon on the rocking chair outside Holiday Inn -- yes, I know I have a nice body and you are jealous.I'm a big fan of healthy food and exercise.

more later~

the perfect imperfection... happy velentine's day!

Before I make any jewelry, I always inspect the gemstones and pearls very closely. One day, when I was selecting pearls to be used for rings, I found an interesting pearl. Here's the picture of it--

Did you see what I saw? Look closer--

There is a dark spot on the pearl in a perfect heart shape. The dark spot was the result of the imperfection of the pearl being enhanced(darkened) during the dyeing process. It's very common to find dark spot on colored(dyed) pearls, but I have never seen it in such a lovely heart shape, and on a red pearl even! I was very excited to find this precious little thing. It's the perfect imperfection created by the Nature.I'm keeping the pearl for myself(or maybe I'll use it to make some jewelry for someone I love, I don't know yet), so these pictures are my Valentine for you--Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I hope you are spending today with your loved ones. :)

Gemstone Necklaces

Today I got a chance to photograph some of the necklaces I made a while back. Before I list them, I'll post the pictures here first and talk a little about them.
The first necklace was made over a year ago.I think it was made in the fall of 2007, just a few months after I opened my Etsy shop. This was my first attempt to make a Y necklace featuring a wire wrapped flower --

The next one was made last fall, after I came back from a gemstone buying trip.I used some top grade fancy cut pink topaz for the flower.

I really love this piece.I think the simplicity of it draws attention to the center piece, and the pearl drop gives it an elegant "grown up" feel. I never listed it in my shop, because I was shocked to find out its retail value when I did my price calculation. But now that I'm a little more confident about my works,I think I'll list it this week.

Remember what I said about planning to work on more high end pieces ? Well, I'm proud to say I finally tried some more things this week. The pictures below are a necklace I made yesterday--

This necklace is listed in my shop so you can see more pictures here. I was experimenting new techniques(random wire wrap and hand formed connectors) again with this piece.I have a feeling it will take me a while to get used to constructing larger pieces.

I'm glad to say I'm not very worried about selling these necklaces, because I have been making my living selling inexpensive jewelry. :)
I think one reason to work on larger pieces (which takes hours to design and make) is to understand myself -- especially my skills and aesthetics. It is becoming more and more clear what is important to me in my jewelry -- simplicity and balance.

7 random facts about me

I have been tagged by Nancy(aka Indie Sista) so I'm here to share 7 random facts about me (in no particular order) with footnotes..

1. I am also a professional musician
I have a Master's degree in piano performance from Indiana University.I still think this is the greatest achievement I have ever done, because I had been an amateur pianist until age 21, and even my own piano teachers didn't think I could've gone so far.

2. I am fascinated by fire and knives
When I was a kid I liked to burn things..matches, candles(still one of my favorite), paper, leaves..Once, I almost burned down my neighbor's house when I tried to burn some leaves in their yard. Now I only burn candles and incense.
As for knives, I used to carry a small utility knife with me all the time(I put it in my pencil case, which I had with me ALL THE TIME), not because of self-protection, but just because I liked knives. I kept this habbit until just a few years ago, after a few of my beloeved cutters were confisticated at the airport.

3. I am extremely shy
I'm getting a little better at social occasions now, even though it is still very difficult for me to initiate a conversation with strangers. When I'm alone, often I would avoid eating out just because I don't want to place orders with a stranger. I don't go out to make friends either-- I'm so shy I would rather have no friends than trying to make friends. Luckily, people come to me every now and then wanting to be my friends, and I really appreciate it when that happens.

4. I am fascinated by transportation
cars, buses, airplanes, trains.. etc. Basically, I like being a passenger and being "moved" from place to place, be it fast or slow. I think it's so cool that I don't even need to move my legs and something can take me to a different place, and I can let my mind wander when I'm inside a transportation. I hate driving though.

5. I HATE being teased
I'm so cute that everyone likes to tease me. Even kids! People tell me they can't help teasing me because I'm so cute, but I hate being teased and I can cry if I happen to be in a vulnerable mood when you tease me.

6. I don't remember people's faces
I often pass people whom I have met as if I have never met them before. I don't mean to be rude, but I simply don't remember people's face. This also makes it difficult for me to understand movies with more than 5 characters -- I think I have a maximum capacity of remembering 2 faces at a time, and that's if these two people don't change their hair or makeup.

7. I believe in miracles
I'm not sure exactly what miracles are, but I believe in miracles and believe that a lot of my luck came from my belief in miracles...

Now,here are the 7 people that I'm tagging. All of these are bloggers who have left comments on my blog recently--

Kala Pohl Studio
Alicia aka “Fashiona”
Simply Charming in SC

And here are the basic rules for tagging: Mention the person who tagged you and link the person, post the rules in your blog, write 7 random things about yourself, tag seven people at the end of your post and link to them and let each person know they've been tagged.

I hope you enjoy!

pancake for breakfast

I didn't sleep well last night and woke up early this morning. So, for the first time in almost 10 years,I made myself some pancakes!
But the best part is ,of course, the strawberries -- how often do you happen to have strawberries when you make pancakes? This is the first time for me :)
